Cabins & Fares

Your Cabin on Board

Your cruise fare depends on the cabin you choose and the fare that goes with it. Here are the four cabin categories, the grades within each, and how the Basic and Select fares work.

Choosing Your Cabin

Four cabin categories

Your Hurtigruten cruise fare is charged according to the cabin you choose. The cabins are divided into four categories: Polar Inside, Polar Outside, Arctic Superior and Expedition Suites. Within each category are several individual cabin grades, listed in the table below, which vary in size and location. As a general rule, outside cabins on the higher decks have a picture window, while lower decks have portholes.

How the fare works follows naturally from this. If you book an unspecified cabin within Polar Inside, Polar Outside or Arctic Superior, you choose the category but not the exact grade or number, and your cabin is assigned when you check in on board; this is the Basic fare. If you would rather choose your exact cabin grade and number in advance, and add extras such as complimentary tea, coffee and WiFi, that is the Select fare. Expedition Suites are always booked as a specified cabin. The two fares are compared in full further down the page.

All cabins have en suite facilities, and are provided with towels; almost all have hairdryers, and if yours does not, you can borrow one from reception. A choice of suites on MS Trollfjord lets you select a cabin with a balcony or bay window, and some have a bath or jacuzzi.

A Polar Inside cabin on board MS Nordkapp

Polar Inside

Comfortable, well priced inside cabins, mostly with twin beds one of which converts to a sofa. An economical way to sail the coast, with all the same public areas and views from deck.

A triple berth Polar Outside cabin on board MS Nordkapp

Polar Outside

Outside cabins with a window or porthole, spread across the lower, middle and upper decks, with twin beds or doubles on refurbished ships. A few have limited or no view.

An Arctic Superior P-Grade cabin on board MS Richard With

Arctic Superior

The most comfortable cabins short of a suite, on the middle and upper decks, with TV and tea and coffee making facilities and twin or double beds.

An Expedition Suite MG4 on board MS Richard With

Expedition Suites

Spacious one or two room suites with a seating area, TV, tea and coffee and a mini bar. Many have a private balcony or bay window, and some a bathtub. Always booked as a specified cabin.

Expedition Suites

Choose from Hurtigruten's range of comfortable Expedition Suites, graded Q, M, MG and MX. They have one or two rooms, a seating area with TV and tea and coffee making facilities, and a shower and WC. Most have a double bed, which may be two single mattresses set in a double frame that cannot be separated. Our sales consultants will be pleased to advise if you would prefer a bathtub.

Arctic Superior Cabins

Cabin grades P, U and QJ all have private facilities with TV and tea and coffee making facilities. P and U cabins have either twin beds, one of which can be turned into a sofa, or double beds on refurbished ships. Most QJ cabins have double beds. QJ cabins also have a restricted view.

Polar Outside Cabins

Cabin grades A, J, L, N and O all have private facilities, with either twin or triple beds, one of which can be turned into a sofa (some have upper and lower berths), or double beds on refurbished ships. Cabins J and L have limited or no view.

Polar Inside Cabins

I grade cabins have private facilities, mostly with twin beds, one of which can be turned into a sofa. Some cabins have upper and lower berths to accommodate a third passenger.

Special cabins

All the ships have at least one specially equipped cabin for disabled passengers. Please contact our reservations team for further information.
