Extend Your Holiday
At the head of the Oslofjord and overlooked by the medieval Akershus Fortress, Norway's capital is one of Europe's most spacious yet least crowded, and a delight to explore entirely on foot.
Extend Your Holiday
Founded around 1000 AD, Oslo was the site of Norway's first university and remains the country's commercial hub today. Despite covering a large surface area for a European capital, the city centre is easily walked, with the Royal Palace, Karl Johans Gate and the waterfront at Aker Brygge all within easy reach of one another.
The city's museums are a match for its walkable scale: the Fram Museum and the Kon-Tiki Museum sit close together on the Bygdøy peninsula, the Munch Museum holds an extensive collection of Norway's best known artist, and the Vigeland Sculpture Park in Frogner Park presents over 200 bronze, granite and cast iron works by Gustav Vigeland in a single, remarkable open-air setting. Long summer days, an easy waterfront and a good spread of bars, restaurants and shops round out one of Northern Europe's most appealing capital cities.
