A cultural and scenic odyssey of spellbinding grandeur, starting in Iceland this incredible journey offers a chance to fully explore some of Greenland's most historic settlements, as well as the awe-inspiring settings if Disko Bay, Ilulissat and the Eqip Sermia Glacier.
Itinerary
Day 1 : Embark the MS Fram in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland.
Day 2 : Sail to Grundarfjördur, situated on the Snæfellsnes peninsula and surrounded by volcanic landscape filled with glaciers, fishing villages and seabirds.
Day 3 : Sail across the Denmark Strait bound for Greenland, lectures will prepare for your next destination.
Day 4 : Navigate Prins Christian Sund, a narrow, often ice choked channel to reach the western coast of Greenland.
Days 5 - 6 : At the southern tip of the island, Qaqortoq is a thriving fishing community and the largest municipality in southern Greenland, boasting its oldest fountain, some superb colonial architecture and a collection of remarkable sculptures.
Day 7 : Call at Nuuk, Greenland's oldest town and its political and social centre. Visit the town and its museum for an insight into the country’s distinctive heritage.
Day 8 : Continue to the volcanic island of Disko where you call at the only settlement, Qeqertarsuaq. The Arctic Station is located here, used by the Copenhagen University to study the flora and fauna in Greenland.
Day 9 : Ivittuut is Greenland's smallest community, with just 200 people living in an area of some 600 square kilometres. Lying close to the beautiful waters of the Karsakn Strait, the area is rich in mineral deposits. Visit the abandoned mines.
Day 10 : Sail to the vast Eqip Sermia glacier which you can admire during a barbecue dinner on shore.
Day 11 : Visit Ilulissat, situated at the end of a vast icefjord filled with massive icebergs. Cultural visits and optional excursions offer a spectacular introduction to the area.
Day 12 : In Sisimiut you can participate on a walk through the settlement and other optional excursions to experience life in this quaint little fishing village.
Day 13 : Located on the head of the Itilleq Fjord is the tiny settlement of Itilleq. Discover how the inhabitants survive with no fresh water and take a visit to its church with an interesting past.
Day 14 : Arrive Kangerlussuaq where you have the opportunity to visit the ice cap before you board the flight to Copenhagen.
Day 15 : Arrive in Copenhagen where your tour ends.
