Encompassing some of Norway's most breathtaking scenery, this incredible journey combines the cultural highlights of Longyearbyen, Barentsburg and Ny-Ålesund with Spitsbergen's stunning western coastline, taking you across the 80th parallel and deep into the Arctic waters around Moffen Island.
Itinerary
Day 1 : Arrive Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen's lively capital, once a mining settlement that is now a major centre for polar research. Overnight stay at Spitsbergen Hotel.
Day 2 : Embark on MS Fram. Sail to Barentsburg and visit this Russian settlement. After exploring this small settlement enjoy a folklore show before sailing out of Isfjord heading south along the coast of Spitsbergen.
Day 3 : Today visits to beautiful Hornsundfjord, Brepollen or Hamburgerbukta are planned along with several landings. In the afternoon you sail south towards Bjørnøya. Lectures introduce you to the variety of wildlife you are likely to encounter.
Day 4 : Today's' highlight is Bjørnøya, home to the magnificent bird cliff "Stappen" where hundreds of thousands of birds come to nest in the summer. The waters around the island are home to humpback, minke and fin whales which you may be lucky to spot.
Day 5 : Landings in Bellsund and Vårsolbukta are planned for today before the journey continues north to the famous Magdalenefjord.
Day 6 : After the visit to Magdalenefjorden you sail towards the 80th parallel and spend some time at the ice edge before cruising to Moffen Island, home to a large colony of walrus.
Day 7 : The morning is spent in Krossfjorden with lectures and Polar Cirkel Boat cruising before arriving at Ny Ålesund, the world's northernmost settlement. A Guided walk will introduce you to the town before you have some free time here. Depart in the evening.
Day 8 : Enjoy further lectures as you cruise Forlandssund, St Jonsfjord and Billefjorden. Farewell dinner in the evening.
Day 9 : Morning arrival at Longyearbyen where your voyage ends.
