The dramatic Lofoten Islands are shrouded in legends, and this special itinerary allows us to spend three full days exploring this hidden corner of Norway. Combined with visits to Oslo and Bergen, and including several nights on the southbound Hurtigruten, this tour is for those who wish to know more about heritage and life along the Norwegian coastline.
You begin your tour in Oslo, Norway's Viking capital on beautiful Oslofjord, where you transfer to one of the leading hotels of the world - the privately owned, exclusive Hotel Continental. Located in the heart of the city, you spend two nights allowing optimum time to explore its sights.
Following your time in Oslo, you fly to Bodø, with its spectacular backdrop of mountains north of the Arctic Circle. With constant daylight here from May to mid-August and the midnight sun shining for a full six weeks during june and july, your journey continues to join the afternoon northbound Hurtigruten to the 'capital' of the Lofoten Islands, Svolvær. You arrive in the late evening and transfer to Svinøya Rorbuer.
Fishermen's Cabin
The design of your cottage accommodation is based on the traditional fishermen cabins (Rorbu). These comfortable cabins have been refurbished and equipped with modern kitchen and bathroom facilities to ensure you feel totally at home for the coming three nights.
Day 1 :
Arrive Oslo. Overnight at hotel in the heart of the city.
Day 2 :
Free day to explore Oslo and its museums, or enjoy optional excursions which can be booked locally.
Day 3 :
Private transfer to airport. Fly to Bodø, meet representative and join the afternoon northbound Hurtigruten vessel to Svolvær in the Lofoten Islands, with dinner included on board. Transfer to Svinøya Rorbuer cosy fishermen's cabins, where you spend the next three nights on a half board basis.
Day 4 - 5 :
Free to explore Svolvær and the Lofoten Islands. Many excursions and activities are available locally, and there are a number of walks or cycle rides that can be taken from your base here.
Day 6 :
After a free day in Svolvær, you transfer to the quayside for the early evening departure on the southbound Coastal Voyage, with your evening meal on the ship.
Day 7 :
There is further excitement today as the ship crosses the Arctic Circle. Sailing past the famed peaks of the dancing Seven Sister mountain range, folklore merges with the facts of nature – look out for Torghatten, which still bears the hole made by Hestmannen’s arrow in one of Norway’s popular legends.
Day 8 :
You have an early arrival in the fascinating medieval city of Trondheim. The voyage continues out of the Trondheimsfjord past Hitra Island to make brief calls at Kristiansund and Molde, known as the City of Roses and surrounded by 87 snow-capped mountains, before the midnight call at Ålesund and a last night at sea.
Day 9 :
The landscape becomes increasingly lush as the journey weaves through the islets and beautiful Bergen comes into view again. Arrive Bergen in the early afternoon. Transfer to your comfortable hotel where you spend the night.
Day 10 :
Depending on the time of your return flight you may have some free time to explore Bergen.
