Join a unique and exciting whale safari, based in the remote island settlement of Sommarøy outside Tromsø. Explore the Arctic city of of Tromsø before setting sail south for Bergen where one of your many highlights is the day sailing through the magnificent Vesterålen and Lofoten Islands.
This itinerary takes you above the Arctic Circle to Tromsø. Explore the Arctic city of Tromsø where you will spend one night in a comfortable quayside hotel. The hotel is ideally situated near to the harbour and ten minutes walk from the stores and the restaurants.
The following morning you set out on a short stroll to the excellent Polaria Museum. Here you will have a guided tour exploring the incredible landscapes, wildlife and heritage of the Arctic region through an interactive combination of film, displays and marine life.
Life on the Seas
Returning to the quay you embark on a small, fully equipped boat which will take you on your search for some of the world's most magnificent creatures. Whilst sightings cannot be guaranteed of these creatures in their natural habitat, this area is known to be frequented by minke, sperm and humpback whales as well as dolphins, porpoise, otters and seals. Thousands of seabirds circle overhead, and if you are lucky, you may also spot sea eagles.
Day 1 :
Join in Tromsø and stay in your ideally located hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 2 :
A local guide will join you for a morning visit to the Polaria museum before you board your small, fully equipped boat for your sea and whale safari. The trip ends in the small island community of Sommarøy where you spend the next two nights.
Day 3 :
Free day to explore, enjoy hotel facilities or optional fishing trips, sea safaris and boat excursions (booked locally).
Day 4 :
Private bus to Tromsø, free time to explore before boarding our southbound coastal vessel.
Day 5 :
The memorable sights of the Lofoten Islands will stay with you forever as the ship meanders gently through this stunning network of inlets and isles. Moving on you reach what is the highlight of the voyage for many, where hopefully you can make a detour into spectacular Trollfjord. This remarkable day is completed with an evening return to Svolvær and a farewell to the islands at Stamsund.
Day 6 :
There is further excitement today as the ship crosses the Arctic Circle. Sailing past the famed peaks of the dancing Seven Sisters mountain range, folklore merges with the facts of nature - look out for Torghatten, which still bears the hole made by Hestmannen’s arrow in one of Norway's popular legends. The award-winning new museum at Rørvik celebrates the important part the sea has played in defining today's Norway.
Day 7 :
You have an early arrival in the fascinating medieval city of Trondheim. The voyage continues out of the Trondheimsfjord past Hitra Island to make brief calls at Kristiansund and Molde, known as the City of Roses and surrounded by 87 snow-capped mountains, before the midnight call at Ålesund and a last night at sea.
Day 8 :
The landscape becomes increasingly lush as the journey weaves through the islets and beautiful Bergen comes into view again. Disembark in Bergen where you will be met and transferred to your centrally located hotel.
Day 9 :
Depending on the time of your return flight you may have some free time to explore Bergen.
