Tromsø• Kirkenes • Inari
An introduction to Norwegian and Finnish Lapland.
Your journey begins in the Arctic capital of Tromsø where you begin your leisurely voyage north towards Lapland. Enjoy the wild and sparse landscapes north of the Arctic Circle as you sail towards Honningsvåg. From here you can travel to mainland Europe's most northerly point, the North Cape.
You then head to Kirkenes a mere 10 kilometres from the Russian border where you disembark and start your journey towards Finland. En route the journey will take you through a variety of snow capped scenery, you will be driving along fjords and valleys and see the Sami bridge which connects Norway and Finland across the border river. Arrive in Inari in the early evening and after dinner you may have time to explore the village or look out for the mystical Northern Lights.
On your second day in Inari you have the chance to learn more about the Sami on your visit to SIIDA - Sami Museum and Northern Lapland Nature Centre and you will also visit a reindeer farm, to learn something of the life and farming techniques of the Sami herders. The afternoon is free for you to enjoy one of the optional excursions.
On the last day of your tour you will depart Inari in the morning and head back towards Kirkenes, driving along a scenic highway that passes several frozen lakes. Throughout the journey your driver will talk about the life and history of the Sami people and your tour finishes back in mainland Norway's most remote outpost, on the edge of the Varanger Fjord.
